Taylor Swift Finally Speaks Against the Anti-Gay Senate Candidate
The Pop Star who was previously a Country Crooner has endorsed two specific candidates by finally speaking up, this Sunday. After facing years and years of Criticism by keeping quiet on political issues, Taylor Swift has finally spoken up. The singer has been reluctant for years to speak about politics even when people asked her to. She has had years of pressure to speak about them, and finally, she managed to post a lengthy message on Instagram, saying that she is voting for Phil Bredesen.
“I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for All Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love,” she continued. “Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives.”
Phil Bredesen has been a Democrat who is running for the U.S Senate in Tennessee against Marsha Blackburn, a Republican candidate. In the past, Taylor Swift was hesitant to speak about these things but her post gave a clear acknowledgment. According to her post, she said, she has been reluctant in voicing our her political opinions in the post because of various events that happened in her life. She has been different for the past two years and now, she has changed into a different person.
She said that she has always voted for the candidate who can fight for all the human rights despite the difference. She is someone who supports the fight for LGBTQ rights and doesn’t tolerate any kind of discrimination when it comes to sexual or gender orientation. She says that systematic racism is sickening and irrelevant. She also added that she regrets not being able to support the female candidate and ended with a plea for people to get educated about the candidates before voting them. According to the resources, Blackburn is leading on Bredesen while 50% of the respondents said that they will vote for her.
Thank you for the kind words @taylorswift13. I’m honored to have your support and that of so many Tennesseans who are ready to put aside the partisan shouting and get things done. We’re ready for it. Last day to register to vote is October 9. https://t.co/6Xd6YyaJCG pic.twitter.com/CatUBkXPKe
