This is one of the reasons why Matthew Vaughn is considered a good action star. His new ‘Kingsman The Secret Service’ has been perceived as the old wine in a new bottle. However, the look of the movie will make you think that he’s a wannabe James Bond with the giving franchise. Kingsman, as a series is known for the distinguishable uniqueness which deserves discussion across the cinematic universe. Kingsman also remains as a dare which explores the spy movies by synthesizing thriller formula with tumble and rough treatment. It has many attractive and volatile action sequences that bring a cinematic rhythm across the hyperboles with well-orchestrated stunts. Coming off as a good flick, there’s a bit of Bond stick forced into it as well. Matthew Vaughn has a foresight which is solid for the film’s treatment that it surprises you when you’re ready to typecast it into a generic spy movie!
While on the mission during the Middle East, the story is of an agent who is a part of the espionage network. His network people call themselves as Kingsmen, who are ready to sacrifice their lives. An agent among the group has sacrificed his life in order to protect his superior from a grenade blast. Not able to bear the loss of the colleague, the team lead reaches out for his wife. He gives Eggsy, her son a medal which has an emergency number on it. After a decade, Eggsy (nickname for Taron Egerton) is a streetwise goon who is involved with many thefts as well as petty crimes. Despite having higher capabilities and IQ, he gets dropped out of the Royal Marine training because of the uncertainties. On being humiliated at the pub by a group of brats, Eggsy pays it back by stealing the car of the main goon. He then gets incarcerated and during his time in custody, he calls to Galahad who responds to him. Colin Firth plays the role of Harry Hart in this movie.
Kingsman The Secret Service Plot:
Galahad has asked Eggsy to join him as the Kingsman which is why the latter becomes the former’s candidate. The transformation from being a troublemaker to the Kingsman is just so intuitive in bits and pieces. Eggsy is then taken to the boot cap where various other candidates are made to go through various training sessions. Thinking that every man is for himself is the best attitude that is used to survive the boot camp candidates. People who are the boot camp are ruthless as they try to win the sessions except for Eggsy who wants to make sure that all the fellow candidates can keep away from the harm. People start realizing that Eggsy has a kind-hearted attitude by putting him out there as a help rather than a competition. Merling, played by Mark Strong is a conductor of various tests where two people emerge as final candidates. Eggsy and Rosy are put to the last test where he is tasked to kill a puppy. Here it gets revealed that he’s made to nurture all the tests in order to prove his loyalty to Kingsmen. Eggsy then denies to go through this test has given the paradigm and Roxy is named as the Kingsman, with a code name titled as Lancelot. Hereafter, Kingsmen start the job by involving themselves in kidnapping James Arnold, one of the top professors in the world and it hits the news. Kingsmen sents their best person in order to get Arnold back.
Kingsman The Secret Service Characterization:
Kingsmen sents their best in order to bring Arnold back but this agent is now killed by Gazelle, the hybrid assassin. Gazelle has blades for legs and can be extremely ruthless when it comes to spill blood. By tracing the incidents to find this source, Merlin discovers the person who is responsible for the crime behind this mayhem while perusing the Valentine with a flamboyant personality. Richmond Valentine, played by Sam Jackson is an interesting addition to this film. The scheme involved in this kidnap is to provide free internet across the world and it starts worrying the Kingsmen, extremely. After a while, it is revealed that Valentine has other plans to deal with the environmental problems by killing half of the world population. Another Thanos in action, eh? His scheme is by inserting a sim card into every person which triggers a frenzy that starts with a technical procedure just by sitting in his room. Galahad has managed to trace the Valentine through a hate group who have Christian extremists in a chapel. Sensing his presence, Valentine tries to trigger the little death waves of the sim card. The chapel gets erupted into a bloodbath as Galahad and his rest and fights like dogs that are inflicted with rabies. By the end of the fight, Galahad manages it by shooting Valentine in the face by confronting him outside the chapel.
Kingsman The Secret Service Conceptualization:
After hearing the news, Eggsy gets devastated and reaches the headquarters to meet the actual King, played by Michale Caine. After reaching their Eggsy realizes that the King also has a scar on the neck and both of them gets engaged in a conversation. It is only during the conversation, it gets revealed that the King is trying to kill Eggsy. From the King, it is known to Eggsy that Valentine has more plans of being catastrophic as the psychopath maneuvers many ways to use this satellite in order to trigger the neurological killer wave. Merlin and Eggsy meet in order to avenge the Galahad murder as they set out on the base where few other elites are also chosen by him in order to unleash his trigger. Eggsy then enters his name under the King but is found to be fake by an ex-recruit. A Mayhem is created when Eggsy and Merlin start fighting out with Valentine’s henchman. However, the realization is when he had to act instantly when Valentine activates the button with his tumult of Sim card. Merlin, who on the other hand wants to hack into Valentine’s sail safely and this has created a disturbance in the trust of the group. All the elites of Merlin have managed to hack the fail-safe plan of the Valentine and watch the heads explode the trusted group of people dismembering them. Eggsy has their final confrontation with the Gazelle towards the last episode while ripping through everything as Eggsy uses the shield including a tray. Gazelle puts the best as he moves through the Eggsy the sharp metallic limbs at the proximity. In a final move, Eggsy is also shown using the shoe blade as he tries to nick Gazelle with it. Unbeknownst to it, the poison, however, enters into the veins as it spreads out like creepers by engulfing into the veins while succumbing to the death move of Kingsman. Ripping the metal leg out of the corpse, Eggsy throws the blades through Valentine who is dead now. In the final moments, Valentine just states at the killer and says ‘Perfect’ before he dies.
Eggsy now pays a visit to the mother who is shown seated at the pub along with her once abusive husband. We see Eggsy wearing a sleek suit reminding us of Galahad’s encounter with him for the first time when he gave him the emergency number. Eggsy is then asked to leave because of his stepdad creating an issue about it. He slowly walks into the door and closes it with the iconic line from the mentor, “Manners maketh Man” and swings a beer mug at this man who tried to humiliate him. The film then ends with Eggsy looking at the sidekicks of his stepdad who are the same people that he has seen interloping in the pub scene before. He then delivers another iconic life, ‘So are we just going to stand or will we be fighting?’ The iconic element of the film is that the role of Valentine is played by Sam Jackson who resonates extremely well with Eggsy. He doesn’t only have dapper looks but also shares an affinity towards the Day-Glo clothing as well. He makes use of the ubiquitous cell phone technology in order to lure people into this series of murders. This element is a turning point in the plot as it surprises as well as shocks people with its bizarre nature.
Kingsman The Secret Service Screenplay:
The screenplay of this movie has caught me off brilliantly. It is not really easy to design a villain in the first place especially given how beautiful the character of Valentine, is. The introduction of him is an instant plus to the plot as well that you will find yourself craving to know him more. With the arrival of his henchman, especially Sofia Boutella; you can see that he has preferences which are in synchronization with Lex Luther making things more and more clear. Top of all that, this director made everything so paradoxical by giving vulnerability to Valentine which makes it beautiful, altogether. Top of all that, the director has created an amazing paradox when Valentine can’t tolerate the sight of blood. I mean imagine his intentions and his hatred against blood. Triggering all of these human killing fests by a bunch of elites have come off with a ruthlessness which makes Kingsman resonate with the comic book villains as well who are not only conscious about style and looks while being obsessed with humanity as well. The dexterity of the director has made things clear and as well as molding for the antagonist as a spy story which has been induced in the veins.
Instead of being extremely enthusiastic and as well as unrealistic, Kingsman gives you a bag full of action sequences which help you distinguish it from any other action movie that has been in existence till date. What makes the action involving is the spectators trying to answer it. A part of the reason why this film has been so solid is that the director has a strong firm and as well as clarity on the current trends of action sequences. These action scenes derive most of the amusement from making noise and making less sense. When asked, Vaughn has asked personally to his liking for the replay of the sports and he says that geography plays an extremely crucial role in making the action scenes so that they have the desired effects on the audience. While we have to agree on this, the coherence of the shots takes Vaughn to an extent where we are shown details of a man flying his tooth off the powerful punch while focusing on the sideman. The eyeballs of this sideman follow his tooth while his face gets blanketed with a grimace. In most of the scenes, we can’t even locate the trajectory of the fight as the camera takes you through it mounting on the back of a housefly. We go through loops and ups and downs in order to unfold the entire sequence with clarity.
Kingsman The Secret Service Action:
The action sequences here are made of scenes which are engaging and which can create a verbal prelude based on the characters that are written. One such thing happens when Harry Hart, the fictional character played by Colin Firth gets ogled by many hooligans. At first, he is asked to leave but then he takes a step bag and locks all the doors. He then gives us the Oxford motto, “Manners maketh Man”. He delivers this line with such a grace that it enhances the whole sequence to make it look like a lesson than as a thing that can kick the ass. There are many subtle additions that are added to this character development that make Kindsman special than what it is. Donning the Gladiator, Russel Crowe made us all unforgettable by his goosebumps line; “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridious” while giving us the perspective shift. We all rooted for this dialogue as he became the devastated North commander. The power manifested by Harry in the graceful suit and the chiseled personality will make you carve the line in the head as he rips all the bullies apart one step at a time. Harry is designed as a character which can’t be messed with and we as well as Eggsy realize that he has more than just a neat suit and super nerdy specs to his composed personality.
For a spy firm which runs out of the tailor shop, Kingsman doesn’t fall out of the equipment that is considered as mandatory for the spy service. Most of the weapons in this movie are inspired by James Bond films, Kingsman only introduces a spoon full of art weapons that are hidden in mundane objects like rings, umbrellas and Oxford shoes. There are many sartorial attires that are present in an umbrella in this film that can act as a shield as well as a piston, given the situation. The director has beautifully choreographed the movie that we can use it as a good pub stunt. Galahad swings around the plot with a lot of dexterity including quintessential choices that are used as weapons. It’s Matthew Vaughn who managed to look dapper in the dresses with spy plot and as he plays with all the box toys. Therefore, he deserves a special appreciation considering the ways he has explored the creativeness and used them to the maximum extent. All the stunts of Galahad have been violent yet enjoyable because they are orchestrated in a beautiful way with a thrilling rhythm that our retinas follow with pleasure. The film is full of sneaky surprises that come up every minute while Kingsmen try to prove themselves to be the smartest as they hide a weapon in the plain sight. There has been a lot of dexterity involved to render the helpless opponents and sleek punchlines to demonstrate the existence of the cop world.
Kingsman The Secret Service Ending:
The conceit of Kingsmen can be interpreted as a film which celebrates many spy movies across the century. Starting from Jason Bourne to James Bond, there has been many grim attempts that talk about this espionage films which are giving tough competition with picturesque, semi-cartoonish canvas where Kingsmen find the footing. In this film, we can see a clear transition of the English brat who has been a major troublemaker to a well mannered secret agent who is delivering blows to the opponents making all the characters, extremely unforgettable. With a story full of bizarre antagonism, the plot of the movie is blended with clandestine network producing the best of the spies. Kingsmen will take you into a world which begs for many sequels proving that it is a worthful installation after the first movie. Eggsy has been a composed gentleman that you will not help but fall in love with him undoubtedly. The reputation of the first half could not be boasted about given how the movie has gone. His transition and his characteristics make him an extremely strong candidate who can bear the lead roles of the sequels given how they can get in, easily. Kingsman: The Secret Service ends on a rather matured note starting with Eggsy’s character where he can possibly a spy in the future just like his mentor. The subplot of the movie is signaling the absence of Galahad whose return might be possible given the relationship he shares with Merlin.
Kingsman The Secret Service Conclusion:
The ending of the movie supersedes all the expectations of the film if we look at it as a craftfully done film where Eggsy returns to meet his mother flaunting his charisma and also composure. He gleefully and courageously confronts his stepdad. This scene clarifies all those doubts that he had regarding the spectators that compete for the professionalism. By the end of the scene, we can redefine Eggsy’s character without making it sound like Galahad’s. Eggsy matures into a sleek, a well-mannered gentleman full of sauve in this film. Many young people in this movie have assimilating qualities that can make their personalities reach a level where things can go beautifully. The character of Eggsy has been written in an aspiring way that we might think of checking on the etiquettes once or twice. Eggsy is an inspiration for the millennial characters making sure that his screen presence lures us into a universe where being a hero is necessary. The film has a formula written on the entire time frame where capabilities of the cast excite us irrespective of our age. Kingsman: The secret service has commandeered who place them at the top of the spy movies. With the flamboyant approach, the movie has towards the eclectic set of characters, concepts and beautiful action; this movie is nothing short of a full-fledged beautiful film that promises us the new visual language which jolts a lot of excitement in us. It revamps the whole British Spy genre by just being beautiful where attention is given to minute details of the narrative proving it to be the refreshing treat for the Bond clogged retinas. Kingsman has been an extraordinary movie in development and the film brings a lot electrifying current to the screen given it is full of hybrid villains and crazed henchmen. If you haven’t given the franchise a chance, I think you should because this movie is not any ordinary.
